RJ academy introduces a new series of thermodynamics which will cover the syllabus of CSIR-NET/JRF CHEMICAL SCIENCE, IIT-JAM, JEE-MAINS, JEE ADVANCE, IIT-BHU, GATE CHEMISTRY, and other chemistry-related exams.
**************************************************************************
Till now, We know about the Gibbs free energy function, and also, we had derived all the maxwell relation that we already learned while studying maxwell born square.
We have studied three different forms of the Gibbs Helmholtz equation and we saw their applications that how we can use the Gibbs Helmholtz equation in calculating Gibbs's free energy.
Previously in thermodynamics, we have learned about Entropy change and how can we determine the entropy change during-
1) Reversible transformation
2) Irreversible transformation
3) Reversible phase transformation
4) Irreversible phase transformation
We have also learned about the Ehrenfest classification of phase transition where Ehrenfest classified first-order and second-order phase transitions.
For the first-order phase transition:
1) G is continuous
2) The first derivative of G is discontinuous
For the second-order phase transition:
1) G is continuous.
2) The first derivative of G is continuous.
3) The second derivative of G is discontinuous.
So far, we have learned about Delta G and Delta S dependence on temperature and now it's time to learn how enthalpy change (Delta H) changes with temperature.
And the equation that gives temperature dependence of Enthalpy change is known as Kirchhoff's equation.
In the last lecture, we started the thermodynamics of the open system where chemical potential plays a very important role when we talk about CSIR-NET exam and GATE exam.
We had seen the temperature dependence of chemical potential in the last lecture and in today's lecture we will be discussing the pressure dependence of chemical potential.
