Many people think they’ll never be able to play by ear or that it’s something people can just do, but really it’s something that you can practice and get better at! I encourage you to use a melody that you already have in your head (if you use the track you’re not really playing by ear as much as matching notes). 🎶

In this short tutorial, I show how to figure out a simple melody by ear. You’ll learn how to:
🎹 Start with a tune you already know
👂 Listen for steps, skips, and direction of the melody
💡 Match what you hear to what you play

Playing by ear helps you connect with music in a deeper, more creative way — and it means you don’t always have to rely on sheet music.
