This slideshow, drawn from the Conservancy’s Mapping the Wissahickon: From the Colonial Era to an Evolving Watershed exhibition, traces more than 300 years of change in the Wissahickon Valley through historic maps, plans, and publications. Arranged chronologically and thematically, it spans four eras—from the valley’s industrial beginnings in the late 17th century, to its protection as a public park, its evolution into a car-free urban retreat, and the modern era of ecological land stewardship. Archival and loaned materials illustrate shifts in land use, public policy, and community efforts that have shaped the watershed into the protected landscape seen today.
