If your Pinterest traffic is dropping right now, especially in December, you’re definitely not alone. In today’s video I want to break down exactly why this happens every single year, what I’m seeing on my own accounts, and why you shouldn’t panic if things look a bit slow at the moment. Pinterest behaves differently in Q4 compared to the rest of the year, and there are a few very logical reasons behind these traffic dips.

December is one of the craziest months for advertisers, and Pinterest is completely filled with ads right now. I’ve even seen posts on Reddit where users are complaining that all they see are ads instead of organic pins. When the platform prioritizes ads like this, naturally organic reach gets pushed down, which means fewer impressions and fewer outbound clicks for creators like us. This doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong — it’s simply the environment of Q4.

On top of that, Pinterest is heavily pushing seasonal and holiday-related content. If your niche is not aligned with Christmas, winter content, or end-of-year searches, your evergreen pins may temporarily lose traction. That’s normal. Pinterest’s algorithm always shifts attention to seasonal trends in December, so many creators see drops even if everything in their strategy is on point.

It’s also important to understand the difference between small and big drops. Losing 50–80% of traffic when you’re under 100 clicks/day is completely normal — most of that traffic probably came from a few viral pins that naturally slowed down. But if you were getting 1,000–2,000 clicks per day and suddenly dropped to 100, that’s a bigger shift, and usually tied to seasonal algorithm changes or a heavy push toward ads. Even then, it doesn’t mean your account is in trouble.

The best strategy right now is to stay consistent, keep posting, keep creating content, and wait until the holiday period is over. Once Christmas and New Year’s pass, Pinterest typically goes back to pushing more organic content, and many niches see a rebound in January. Just stay patient — this is a normal part of the cycle and happens to everyone, including me.
