I was asked to make a follow up video in the Basic Knots for Whips series talking a bit about the knot foundations.
I didn't put to much planning in to this one but decided to just share my thought's and techniques on a few knot related
stuff such as the shapes and build ups.

8:55 Making the foundation
16:40 Strand Width/Length (+ see formula below)

The Bernie Formula:
1) Length of knot foundation / Diameter of knot foundation = A
2) Diameter of knot foundation x 2.25 = B
3) B / Number of bights = C
4) C x A = Width of strand(s)
Let me just state for the record that I'm not good with maths so I might be doing it wrong,
but the formula tends to work the best when the diameter os a bit wider than the length of the foundation.
Making ''A'' a smaller number than 1. Say 0.916 for example.
And when tapping in your number of bights (step 3), keep in mind that you need to double that number of you are doing a interweave.
As you would be doing when making a pineapple knot for example.
So if you're tying a 6 bight pineapple knot you enter 12 bights in the formula because the interweve is also 6 bights.
For an 8 bight pineapple you enter 16 bights and so on.
Example for a 6 bight pineapple:
(Length of foundation is 29.5mm and diameter is 33.2mm)
1) 29.5 / 33.2 = 0.888
2) 33.2 x 2.25 = 74.7
3) 74.7 / 12 = 6.225
4) 6.225 x 0.888 = 5.527
So I'd cut my strand to 5.5mm for a nice fit.
