How many of you who have come to see me
in the pain clinic and in fact even when
GPS refer patients to me they've often
wondered what it is that I can add that
will give them value that would give
them pain relief and what is it that I
can suggest other than medications so I
thought I'd use this opportunity to show
you in this video what are the other
treatment strategies that I have that I
do offer for my patients and that can
often bring about a really good quality
of pain relief often that can be
long-lasting so behind me the big
c-shaped machine with the monitor is
actually what we call SI arm or an x-ray
machine and this is what I use to do a
lot of my nerve blocks my epidurals and
this gives good accuracy good quality
and complete safety when I do these
injections on to the right side behind
me is my ultrasound machine and with the
ultrasound machine as well that allows
me to do nerve blocks and looking at
joint injections and possibly even some
steroid injections into the muscles or
the joints again it improves the
accuracy improves the safety and often
these are not machines that are
available to a lot of physiotherapists
or GPS in the primary care and this is
something as a pain consultant I often
have access to and a lot of my
colleagues will have access to when we
do offer interventions on the right side
here this is called as a radiofrequency
machine so this is a machine that I use
often to heat up some of the nerves and
it can be done on very different nerves
in the body and what it does is it gives
you prolonged relief sometimes has
longer six to nine twelve months of pain
relief following a particular nerve
block and a procedure so these are some
of the interventional treatments that I
offer here in a very purpose-built room
so therefore when I do these
interventions I know that there is
no chance of infection a high degree of
accuracy and hardly any complications
and I've got a wonderful team of nurses
and staff that I love me to do this
