This video presents the design and development of a Water Quality Monitoring System carried out as an academic project under the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The objective of this project is to continuously monitor important water quality parameters using low-cost sensors and a microcontroller-based platform.
The system measures five essential parameters that determine water quality:
• Turbidity – using the LGZD turbidity sensor to detect suspended particles and water clarity
• pH – using a glass electrode pH sensor to measure acidity or alkalinity
• Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) – using a TDS Meter V1.0 to estimate dissolved salts and minerals
• Electrical Conductivity (EC) – to determine ionic concentration in water
• Temperature – using the DS18B20 digital temperature sensor for accurate temperature measurement and compensation
All sensor outputs are processed using an Arduino-based microcontroller unit, where signal conditioning, calibration equations, and data conversion are applied. The measured values are then displayed in real time using a display interface.
This project includes:
✔ Literature review of existing water quality monitoring systems
✔ Selection and justification of sensors suitable for academic and field use
✔ Calibration of sensors to improve measurement accuracy
✔ System block diagram and working principle
✔ Integration of multiple sensors into a single monitoring unit
✔ Discussion on temperature dependency of pH, TDS, and EC measurements
The system is designed to be cost-effective, scalable, and suitable for laboratory as well as field-level water monitoring applications, including drinking water assessment, environmental monitoring, and academic research.
