In this video, we replace an outdated 80% furnace with a 96% high-efficiency system and correct several major issues left behind by a previous contractor. The old install had a cut-open evaporator coil just to add a humidifier—something that should never be done and creates long-term performance and reliability problems.
What we covered in this job:
• Removal of the 80% furnace
• Installation of a new 96% high-efficiency gas furnace
• Proper PVC venting and drainage added to code
• Repairing the evaporator coil section that was cut open
• Correcting the humidifier installation
• Cleaning up electrical and gas line routing
• Improving airflow and overall system performance
• Full startup, combustion testing, and safety checks
Upgrading from 80% to 96% AFUE gives a typical Michigan home noticeably lower gas usage, more even heating, and a safer, properly vented system that meets modern standards. Fixing the botched coil and humidifier install also protects the AC system from leaks, efficiency loss, and premature failure.
If you need your system brought up to proper spec—or fixed after someone else cut corners—we’re here to help.
