Fire in Russian library destroys valuable documents 러시아 대도서관 화재 희귀자료 불타

One of Russia′s largest public libraries has been partially destroyed by a major fire.
Over 200 firefighters battled the blaze from late Friday through Saturday evening to save the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences in Moscow.
But they could not prevent a section of the roof from collapsing.
The cause of the fire is unclear, but according to Russian media, an electrical short-circuit may have started the blaze.
No one was injured, but a million historic documents, or 15 percent of the library′s collection, was damaged.
Vladimir Fortov, president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, called the disaster a cultural Chernobyl, referring to the 1986 nuclear catastrophe.
Ironically, much of the damage was caused by water from the firefighting operation.
