Rutland, Vermont is the third-biggest city in Vermont, at around 16,000 people. I walked around the city's marble-infused downtown area on a sunny Fall day, then drove through the residential and industrial areas outside of downtown. Rutland is full of attractive touches and evidence of its unique history. It was built upon the marble industry, and has become famous for featuring in comic books. Additionally, the creative impulse is felt all around town. Colorful murals, statues and monuments, and quirky sculptures dot the streets and buildings. All this, and I was lucky enough to see an Amtrak train arriving and leaving. Exploring Rutland was a lot of fun, if a little unusual.
