Hey y'all. Working on some Christmas songs? Here's one I've been messing around with. I added my own intro, but the rest is just the "Real Christmas Book" standard jazz arrangement. Really simple. But of course everyone does it their own way. Here's just a few ideas of my own. Maybe they'll give you a bit of inspiration!
Ah, the substitution I mentioned is for a G9 chord. This is basically a G dominant 7 chord (1, 3, 5, b7). But with a 9 (A note) added. So it'd be 1, 3, 5, b7, 2(that's the 9). Ok. If you play a Bm7b5, it's basically the same chord. You can do the math if you want or not. On guitar, you have to choose what notes to play and inevitably leave some out, since more than 4 notes can sound muddy. The Bm7b5 leaves out the G, but someone else (bass or keys) will probably play that if you're playing with other musicians. So you can leave it out and express more of the goodness of the chord. The other thing I mention is the "Drop 3" and "Drop 2" inversions. Look those up!
God bless!
