LONGWA is a fascinating border village located in the Mon district of Nagaland, India. It is home to the Konyak tribe, one of the major Naga tribes known for their fierce headhunting tradition in the past. The village is unique because it straddles the international boundary between India and Myanmar. The house of the village chief, called the Angh, famously lies in both countries, with one half in India and the other in Myanmar. Many villagers have dual citizenship and can move freely across the border. The Konyaks are easily recognized by their traditional face tattoos and distinctive attire. Longwa offers a rare glimpse into ancient tribal life, including wood carving, blacksmithing, and traditional salt-making. The people of Longwa still follow the authority of their Angh, who governs over many villages across both countries. Despite its remote location, the village attracts curious travelers interested in culture, history, and anthropology. Longwa stands as a symbol of shared heritage that transcends modern political boundaries.
