India clinched a massive 88-run victory against Pakistan in the Women's World Cup clash, but the match spotlight wasn't just on the scoreboard! The game was overshadowed by the controversial run out of Pakistan opener Muneeba Ali.
The incident occurred during Pakistan's chase when Deepti Sharma hit the stumps with a direct throw. On review, the third umpire initially called it not out, but dramatically overturned the decision, declaring Muneeba out. The replays showed Muneeba's bat was airborne exactly when the bails came off, sparking fury in the Pakistan camp! Captain Fatima Sana and Muneeba protested the call.
We break down ICC Law 30, which states a batter is out if their bat or any part of their body is not grounded inside the crease when the stumps are broken. Was the rule applied correctly?
Despite the drama, India dominated. Harleen Deol’s 46 and Richa Ghosh’s unbeaten 35 powered India to 247. Pakistan was bowled out for 159, with Sidra Ameen scoring a brave 81. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur called the win a major confidence boost.
