This is video #752 of my video posting project. I have been working on this project since November 2023--learning and posting a video of NEW piano music every. single. day! My mini project-within-a-project is to play a Gospel or Hymn jazz arrangement every Sunday.
Today's piece is "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty" Music from Emeuerten Gesangbuch. This arrangement can be found in Hal Leonard's collection of Jazz Piano Solos in the volume called "Hymns". This collection of jazz arrangements was written by Brent Edstrom.
I am almost sure this will bring on the haters -- but I don't mind. I love a good jazz waltz, and this style makes the hymn SING! And it sounds so joyous and full of praise and worship. So interesting that the jazz waltz style--with all it's syncopation, can still flow forward and add such a beautiful and wonderful lilt to a melody.
