SPT Presents... Doctor Faustus

🎭 Shakespeare Performance Troupe presents a cut of the A- and B-texts of Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus.

Wittenberg scholar Doctor John Faustus has reached the limits of human knowledge, and wants to try his hand at the supernatural, without regard for what God—or his conscience—have to say about it. He summons the devil Mephistopheles and sells his soul to Lucifer in exchange for Mephistopheles’ service and 24 years of infinite power, knowledge, and pleasure (in which time he explores the world, debates philosophy, consorts with devils, trashes the Vatican, and leaves a trail of destruction that the ordinary people of Wittenberg have to deal with, often to hilarious effect). Ultimately: he wants to feel sorry about it, and he tries to feel sorry about it, but we know that, in the end, repentance was never really in the cards for him.
