This documentary examines how the Rolling Stones became the voice of a violent new era in the late 1960s, tracing the band's journey through riots, assassinations, and the Vietnam War that shattered the Summer of Love. Featuring eyewitness accounts from tour manager Sam Cutler (Sam Cutler), tour producer Ronnie Schneider (Ronnie Schneider), photographer Gered Mankowitz (Gered Mankowitz), reporter Michael Lydon (Michael Lydon), and other key figures who were at the scene, the film builds toward the tragic December 1969 Altamont Speedway concert where 18-year-old Meredith Hunter was stabbed to death by a Hells Angels member during the Stones' performance. Director Tom O'Dell (Tom O'Dell) weaves together previously unseen footage, firsthand testimonies, and scholarly commentary to show how this chaotic free concert became "rock's darkest day" and the final nail in the coffin of the 1960s dream.
