Here’s our acoustic cover of “Dance Me to the End of Love” by Leonard Cohen.
The song was originally released in December 1984 and appears as the opening track on Cohen’s album “Various Positions”.
It’s often seen as one of his most beautiful love songs — full of tenderness, longing, and devotion — but it also carries a much deeper and darker meaning beneath the surface.
Even though the lyrics sound romantic, Cohen said the song was inspired by the Holocaust, referencing musicians who were forced to play while unimaginable cruelty took place.
That contrast — between love, beauty, and tragedy — is what gives the song its haunting power.
Musically, the original version has an almost klezmer-like feeling, giving it a bittersweet dance energy that feels both joyful and heartbreaking at the same time.
