An Hitachi excavator was stolen from a work-site in Newport Wales over the weekend. The Automatrics MTrack tracking unit was remotely alarmed and reported a location in Cardiff.
It was not possible to obtain a GPS so an Automatrics radio signal finder was dispatched. The finder picked up the signal and traced it to find the stolen digger hidden in the back of metal clad truck used to block GPS satellites. Standard GPS Plant trackers would not stand a chance to recover this excavator as signals were completely blocked.
South Wales police attended the find site in a speedily manor to arrange the recovery for forensics checks. Although it was not possible to confirm the machine serial number as the rear tail gate could not be opened at the scene. We were later advised by the owner that he had his machine back in action on Friday 10th February.
This video log once again clearly demonstrates Automatrics finding stolen plant equipment that has been deliberately hidden from satellite view. It clearly shows that standard GPS trackers are no match for organised criminals.
