Patris Corde // BFA Thesis Show
Patris Corde is a visceral, contextually rich, presentation of the apostolic letter of the same name, a letter written by Pope Francis and released by the Vatican on Dec 8th, 2020. The work exists so that people might know Joseph, Guardian of the Redeemer, in a more personal way, so in turn they might grow closer to his son.
The work includes seven silkscreen prints corresponding to the seven sections of the letter and an original hand bound layout of the text. The prints depict pivotal moments in the life of Joseph and his family. The hand bound letter is fosters a more intimate experience than any web formatted version, the main method of distribution for papal letters. Inspiration for this body of work certainly comes from illuminated manuscripts but, also the contemporary work of ministries such as The Word of Fire Institute and Ascension Press. The work transforms an existing document that contains useful insight into a beautiful set of artifacts. It invites the viewer to reflect on the life of St. Joseph and the Holy Family.
