Road trip! When I frequently travel to England via the M74 and M6 from South Ayrshire, I detest having to travel the soulless arterial "A" roads that connect to the motorways.
So it's a joy to travel on this road in both directions, hardly any traffic and the scenery is wonderful.
Driving on it is especially therapeutic on coming to Scotland after hours of driving with one's senses on edge through mile after mile of high speed driving in lanes.
With this route near the end of the journey to South Ayrshire, it's wonderful to slow down a bit, negotiate gears and turn the steering wheel again. Real driving!
This is a drivers view of this magical alternative route connecting SW Scotland to the M74 and coming up from England's M6. It passes through the Lowther Hills and Scotland's highest village, Wanlockhead on the Southern Upland Way. Enjoy!
