Reddit's Hunt for The Boston Bombers

On April 15th, 2013, at exactly 2:49 PM, tragedy struck Boston.

Two explosions erupted near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, turning a day of celebration into one of chaos and fear. With no suspects in sight, the question spread quickly: Who was behind it?

As investigators worked behind the scenes, thousands of Reddit users sprang into action. Within hours, photos and videos from the scene were uploaded and dissected by an army of online sleuths. Many believed they had the tools to crack the case—faster than the authorities ever could.

But that confidence led to a disaster of its own.

What began as an attempt to help would spiral into one of the most damaging online manhunts in history.
