After Topps stopped issuing Basketball Cards in 1982 and before Fleer jumped into the fray in 1986, the only company producing licensed NBA basketball cards was The Star Company. Unlike traditional bubblegum cards they were not sold in wax packs. Nor were they sold at convenience stores or in retail stores like Target or Walmart. The only way to buy them was from a hobby shop which in 1984, did not exactly dominate the landscape! The sets were sold in polyethylene (plastic) bags and were limited to very small print runs. The set in this video had a production run of just five thousand (5,000).
While there is an argument to be made for his 1986 Fleer #57 basketball card, the Star Company Michael Jordan cards are considered by many to be his true rookie cards. As you watch this video, the Jordan card is already on its way to PSA to be graded on behalf of our consignor. We are very excited to be helping this gentleman sell this extremely scarce and desirable card.
