Electric vehicles require high speed and torque, which requires more windings , which requires more space, which is only available, if the windings are on outside stator and the magnets rotates inside. In asymmetric motors, independently energized coils are switched on then off, without reversing direction of current. Unidirectional pulses goes through coils. In ordinary alternating current permanent magnet motors, there is north pole on one side of the rotor and south pole on the other side of the rotor. When the rotor turns 180 degrees, direction of current needs to be reversed. But when there is both north and south pole on each side of the rotor , magnetic field polarity doesn't change when it is rotated by 180 degrees, and direct current pulses can be used instead of alternating current sine waves. Motors in repulse mode have higher torque than motors in attraction mode. North field coil, while repulsing north pole magnet, simultaneously attracts two adjacent south pole magnets. Approaching south pole magnet needs to be closer than other south pole magnet that is moving away. It is like in Tesla model 3 internal permanent magnet synchronous reluctance motor , where air gaps in the rotor steel creates attraction in forward direction greater than in backward direction.
