In this lecture, we'll be looking at Chapter 1 of Deleuze's "Difference and Repetition". In it, he seeks to elucidate a concept of pure difference which is not subordinated to identity, analogy, resemblance, or opposition (contradiction). He critiques Plato, Aristotle, Leibniz, and Hegel for developing various theories of difference which in fact reduce difference to an object of thought, making the world into a mental representation instead of viewing ontology in a way suitable to the undertaking of change (becoming) which will take advantage of the fundamentally affirmative potential/intensity that is Difference. Enjoy!
