Dunwoody leaders gathered to celebrate the new boardwalk and wetlands restoration at the Dunwoody Nature Center. The upgrades make it easier for visitors of all ages and abilities to explore and enjoy the natural surroundings.
The new boardwalk is higher, longer, and wider than the old one, providing ADA access to playgrounds at one end. Along the way, there are outdoor classrooms for studying Dunwoody’s aquatic resources, plus seating and observation decks.
For Wildcat Creek, work crews stabilized the banks by adding rock on the water’s edge, installed a log vane to channel water toward the center of the stream, and improved grading. They also removed invasive plant species from existing wetlands and planted native vegetation to restore the native forested wetland habitat.
The project was funded through the City's Stormwater Reserve and an EPD 319(h) Grant of $600,000.
