Ignition Racing wins the Damon Hill Karting Challenge

After improving every year, 2025 was finally the year to climb on the top step of the podium. The annual Damon Hill Karting Challenge in support of charity halow is an incredible event with a good mix from amateur drivers to open seater, Le Mans and F1 drivers. In 2025 the 2,5 hour endurance race was dry for the first half of the race, only for the rain to soak the track for the remaining second half. It was a true team effort to adapt our strategy to suit the conditions best. A huge lead by Luke Hilton was party undone by a black flag. My job was to keep the kart on track and finish the race. In the end, the 2nd position was only 7,5 seconds away at the finish line… Such a relieve to win this one and receive the trophy by no other than Damon Hill himself.

Na enkele jaren proberen was 2025 het jaar waarop we eindelijk boven op het podium konden klimmen. In de jaarlijkse Damon Hill kart race voor het goede doel halow was het weer een mooie mix van amateur coureurs en professionals, onder meer uit Formule racewagens, Le Mans en ook Formule 1. Dit jaar was de 2,5 uur durende race de eerste helft droog, maar de tweede helft kwam het water met bakken uit de hemel. We konden als team onze strategie goed op de omstandigheden aanpassen. De gigantische voorsprong van onze teamgenoot Luke Hilton verdampte helaas door een tijdstraf. Mijn taak was het om in de laatste stint de kart op de baan te houden en de voorsprong die we nog hadden in takt te houden. Uiteindelijk kwam de nr 2 tot op 7,5 seconde op de finish… Wat een opluchting was het om deze race te winnen en de bokaal op het podium in ontvangst te nemen van niemand anders dan Damon Hill zelf.
