The United States Air Force Concert Band presents the exhilarating fourth movement from Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 36". A staple of the orchestral canon, the movement alternates between rousing joy and somber introspection. The celebratory opening theme gives way to a lamenting tune (based on the Russian folk song "In the Field a Birch Tree Stood"), two contrasting realities that reflect the opposing emotional forces in the composer's own life. Still, Tchaikovsky wrote of the piece, "Joy is a simple but powerful force. Rejoice in the rejoicing of others. To live is still possible."
We hope you enjoy!
