Zephyr ostensibly refers to a gentle breeze. Specifically, it is meant to evoke the feeling of watching leaves flutter in the wind. The piece itself signifies a journey through new locations and experiences, and the eventual return home.
Movement II, Oceans, encompasses a flurry of change, from leaving the small creek to innocent prods at the vast world. The journey does not last forever: it is a brief fragment of one's life.
Movement III, Embers, marks a return to the embers of the hearth at one's home. Everything at home seems as if it is now a brighter shade of itself, changed by the perception of the returnee.
Zephyr was premiered at the Allen ISD Performing Arts Center on February 29th, 2020 by Sebastian Zhang.
