In this segment, we start discussing the isentropic efficiencies of the steady flow devices. We first motivated why we define the isentropic efficiencies and then apply the concept to obtain the isentropic efficiency of nozzles. We show that the isentropic efficiency of a nozzle is the actual kinetic energy at the exit of the nozzle divided by the isentropic (adiabatic and reversible) kinetic energy at the exit of the nozzle. We also solve an example question where we find the exit temperature and pressure of a nozzle with a given inlet state and isentropic efficiency.
