Since our Wild Ingleborough appeal launched in spring 2024, we’ve made huge strides for wildlife and wild spaces around Ingleborough mountain. Together we have:
Used historical records to locate rare species and collect seeds and cuttings to grow on in our upland plant nursery – from globeflowers and purple saxifrage to spiked speedwell and montane willows;
Collected spores from rare ferns to grow in seed trays and plant out onto our bare areas of limestone pavement;
Planting nearly 30,000 montane native tree species;
Restored 300m of dry stone wall, the same length as the Ribblehead Viaduct;
Nurtured several new nature reserves, including the beautifully-flowering slopes of Ashes Shaw;
Shepherded our amazing herd of conservation grazing, making gaps in walls so that they can roam freely across Ingleborough’s slopes;
Hosted two successful Ground Nest festivals, celebrating and raising awareness of our endangered ground-nesting birds;
None of this would have been possible without your help and support, and we hope you enjoy this short film celebrating some of our incredible work so far.
