Mystic, Connecticut was settled in 1654. It was settled as a fishing village, and still is. Tourism is now its largest draw.
The 1988 movie, Mystic Pizza was filmed here and you can still visit Mystic Pizza today. The movie producers actually filmed the interior shots in a pizza parlor a town over, but exterior shots in the movie were filmed here AND Mystic Pizza was a real pizza parlor back then, as now. It’s still “a slice of heaven” at Mystic Pizza!
The Mystic River bascule bridge, or drawbridge is the real star of the town. It replaced an older bridge over the river in 1922. It was designed by an Otis elevator engineer. It’s a marvel.
Aviatrix Amelia Earhart married newspaper publisher, George Putnam here in 1931 (or at least in nearby Noank-blink and you will miss this little fishing village).
What a wonderful area! Both towns are technically in the city of Groton, but have their own identities. Give them a visit if you can!
