護生圖 Life Protection Murals

位於佛館南北長廊的外側的護生圖浮雕設計，來自佛光山開山星雲大師的構想，將佛光緣美術館典藏《護生畫集》中的圖畫轉變成立體浮雕的首例。詩文墨寶由弘一大師所題，畫作為漫畫藝術家豐子愷所繪，其中並穿插以書卷窗樣式呈現的《佛光菜根譚》十四幅，總計八十四幅，一字排開，就像是個立體大繪本。
護生，是慈悲、不殺生，是佛陀最基本的教誨。2600多年前，佛陀講的慈悲，就是「無緣大慈，同體大悲。」每幅護生圖畫作，皆表現出仁慈愛物的理念，勸導世人要愛護生命。

Life Protection Murals
The Life Protection Murals along the outer walls of the walkways orig-inated from the conceptions of Venerable Master Hsing Yun. They are the first set of reliefs to be made based on Feng Zikai’s Protection for Living Beings which are accompanied by Master Hongyi’s calligraphy. Among the murals, there are 14 reliefs of Fo Guang Roots of Wisdom words of wisdom. Lining up the walkways, these works make up a 3D story book.

Life protection is a display of compassion and the basic teachings of the Buddha. Two thousand six hundred years ago, Buddha taught the importance of “benefiting all living beings unconditionally, and regard-ing all living beings as oneself”. Each mural thus emphasizes the sancti-ty of life.
