Through this 17 year-old male with keratoconus that was treated with a combination of corneal cross-linking and PRK in a excellent center across town gere in Athens we discuss several significant findings for us:
1- in regard to the possible laser treatment used as well as
2-the healing pattern in the treated right eye.
3-also studying the left asymptomatic eye (20/20 uncorrectwd vision) generates the important question of whether corneal cross-linking should be employed at this time (review of the Optovue-derived 9mm epithelial maps and total corneal thickness becomes the key metric forbthis decision for us)
4-of course persistent advice to avoid a rubbing even during sleep becomes a pivotal part of our management.
5-We will see how we assess the generalized concept of treating corneal scarring with topical corticosteroids and how this general belief among clinicians may actually be counterintuitive
Thanks for watching!
