So much is still said today about being careful and not moving the lower body for more stability in the backswing; just today there was an article about Claude Harmon Talking about this 40 years ago; which is right about the time the madness started with Leadbetter and his beach ball and Mclean with his X-Factor. And so the painful disarray of micro management in the golf swing began.
Ernie Els was one of the earlier victims whom after resisting in the lower body, saw his backswing get too far behind him and had to implement an earlier hinge upwards to remedy the situation! You will see from this video that it was completely unnecessary to go there and it not only robbed him of consistency and power for a couple years but also a bit of sanity. Michelle Wie is another major disappointment with a cluster full of injuries and performances that were well short of expectations. The list of such underwhelming performances runs very deep and wide with a huge wake of millions of golfers leaving the game out of frustration and or injury.
