British-based African artist Abdul Tee-Jay, (Tejan-Jalloh), whose family originated from Guinea, comes from the West African country of Sierra Leone.
Abdul Tee-Jay talks about his influences from 'Milo Jazz', High-Life, Makossa, Soukous, and Benga.(Before amplification and electric guitars, acoustic 'Palm Wine' guitar was one of the main traditional forms of music played in this region of Africa)
Ro-Manké is from Abdul Tee-Jay's Rokoto 1989 album release, Kanka Kuru.
(Rokoto is the band's name).
The music features the Sierra Leonean rythm of the matoma beat.
Here Abdul plays Ro-Manké with Melbourne Australian band Musiki Manjaro,
formed by the band's drummer Nick Schulz in 1989.
The video excerpt features Guinean Mory Kante's 1987 single Ye Ké Ye Ké,
which became a hit in 1988.
