Trooper's Report:
On Monday, September 18, 2023, at 10:00 am, I was travelling northbound on I-49, approaching exit 65, running radar. My
rear radar detected speeds of 97 mph in the same direction, in the construction zone. I observed a black passenger car
approaching at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle approached, it began to slow down. The black passenger car (a Chrysler
300 with tinted taillights) then passed me, and I merged into the left lane to get behind the vehicle. The vehicle engaged the
right turn signal like it was going to merge into the middle lane. I initiated my emergency lights for a traffic stop on the vehicle
north of exit 65. The vehicle slowed down, engaged the left turn signal, and began to pull into the median. As the vehicle began
to merge into the median, I recognized the vehicle from a previous pursuit in south Fayetteville on 8/28/2023, which a
Washington County deputy had initiated.
The vehicle than almost immediately merged back onto the interstate and
accelerated to a high rate of speed and cut over to the right lane, without using a turn signal to merge. The vehicle then merged
back into the middle lane and continued to accelerate. The vehicle continued northbound on I-49 at speeds of 100+ mph,
weaving in and out of the traffic lanes. I advised that I was in pursuit of the vehicle. The vehicle quickly merged from the left
lane all the way across to the right lane, never using a turn signal, and then came back across to the left lane. I continued to
pursue the vehicle with my emergency lights and sirens activated. The vehicle nearly caused multiple accidents by cutting other
vehicles off. The vehicle merged from the middle lane to the right lane and remained in the right lane at a high rate of speed
and took exit 69. Due to a semi in the middle lane, I was unable to take the exit and terminated the pursuit.
Later the same afternoon 9/18/2025 @ 5:40 PM Cpl. Schwab located the vehicle by the partial tag and other vehicle
descriptors I had given him. The vehicle also fled from Cpl. Schwab and an intense pursuit ensued for over 10 miles.
The
vehicle was stopped and towed, the Operator was identified and arrested. See incident report # 202317600ASP for further
details.
