Welcome to one of the most bizarre and fascinating places in Europe – Transnistria! In this video, we explore the self-declared breakaway republic that isn’t recognised by any UN member states – not even Russia. From Soviet monuments and T-34 tanks to retro-themed restaurants straight out of the Cold War, Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria, is like stepping into a time machine.

We started our journey by catching a Wizz Air flight from London Luton to Chișinău, Moldova, and then took a taxi to Tiraspol – an easy and cheap way to reach this unrecognised republic. Once there, we were surprised by how budget-friendly everything was.

We dined at nostalgic restaurants like Back in the USSR and Cantina USSR, packed with Soviet memorabilia, Lenin busts, and Cold War vibes. You won’t believe how surreal it feels walking around a place where the hammer and sickle still fly proudly, and Lenin still stands in front of government buildings.
