Yoga teaches that obstacles to spiritual progress arise not from the outside world, but from within us—ignorance, ego, attachment, aversion, and fear. These inner disturbances cloud our vision and keep us from realizing our true nature.
In yogic philosophy, the three granthis - Brahma-granthi, Vishnu-granthi, and Rudra-granthi-are symbolic "knots" that block the free flow of consciousness. Brahma-granthi binds us through physical desire and ignorance, Vishnu-granthi through emotional attachment and ego-identity, and Rudra-granthi through fear, pride, and attachment to personal power; transcending these knots is essential for spiritual ascent and the realization of the Self. Overcoming these knots is essential for the free flow of spiritual energy. Central to yoga is the awareness of the ultimate force, the one divine reality present in all beings. When we hold this awareness, the mind becomes clearer, and our actions become aligned with truth and harmony. This ideal can be embodied through non valence, truth, , and disciplined self-control. Removing inner impurities is essential for spiritual growth. Thus, yoga calls us to purify the mind, discipline the senses, and untie these inner knots as we remain rooted in the knowledge of Supreme force (Brahman). When we do so, the path to peace and self-realization will open before us.
