Officials in France recently tried to rescue a whale found in the Seine River near Paris.
EUTHANIZE
It is not known how the beluga whale turned away from its path to the Arctic. Animal experts tried to lift the whale and take it to a cold environment for treatment. But the mammal had difficulty breathing. The experts decided to euthanize the creature.
Euthanize is a verb that describes the act of humanely ending the life of something that is dying in extreme suffering. It comes from Greek words meaning an easy death.
