National War memorial is a part of India Gate.

Inaugurated on February 25, 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It has been built as a tribute to the soldiers killed during the Indo-China War in 1962,
the Indo-Pak Wars in 1947, 1965 and 1971, the Kargil Conflict in 1999, and
the Indian Peace Keeping Force Operations in Sri Lanka.

Nearest Metro is Central Secretariat.
You can either book Ola/Uber or can take rickshaws to the memorial directly & Nearest bus stand is (India gate).

Timings : All Days open 9:00 am to 7:30 pm.
Entry will close by 7:00pm or 7:10pm before which you have enter the memorial.

I will advise you that you should visit it in day like reach the memorial by 4:00pm or 4:30pm. The sunset is very beautiful. Retreat ceremony which takes place at 5:30 pm everyday is very popular.

The entry fee of the National War Memorial is free. So you do not have to pay anything.

One drawback is that You cannot park your car in front of gate as it is a tow away zone.


Security is tight and few things are not allowed there so please maintain the decorum there, that area is not a normal area so remember you can't do anything there.


I liked the concept of the War Memorial, and since we visited in spring (and there were a lot of flowers around), it looked really pretty. However, I thought that while the design and the layout is good.


surrounding circle, you can move around, at ground level, in the circles surrounding this (this circle is supposed to be modelled on the mythical ‘Chakravyuh’ of the Mahabharat). This circle consists of thousands of small brick-coloured granite slabs, each etched with the number, name and regiment of an Indian soldier killed in one of the wars. They’re arranged in order of war, and—if you’re here to find the slab of a dear one, I got goosebumps after seeing the names of all great heroes who laid their lives for the nation.

There’s a digital assistant too, a touch screen where you can enter the soldier’s ID, name, and regiment in order to find out the location of his slab at the memorial. and here you can offer virtual tribute to our country's Battle Casualties through Digital Homage “Shraddhanjali” and “Digital Pushp Arpan”.

A beautiful landscape, organized, disciplined, clean and neat place. The gardens, water fountains add beauty to the place.

The National War Memorial has it was spread over 40 acres in the India Gate complex.
There is a store (Souvenir shop) from where you can buy various items clothes, comic books about brave stories of our soldiers, caps, jewellery, novels etc.

Beyond these are gardens, mostly trees (many of them still young), some flowerbeds, and water channels.

Water availability is there for free of cost, washroom system is there which is fully functional /clean.

There is a central obelisk, at the bottom of which the eternal flame is burning continuously to represent the immortality of Indian Jawans, who laid their lives for the country.
