Starland debuted with this double entendre song, title derived from a menu heading at a local restaurant in Washington D.C.
A 4 part harmony group,their voices were the stars of their music.
Taffy Danoff said in an interview that Bill Danoff was the king of double entendre.
She used to introduce Afternoon Delight on Stage by explaining the menu and that Bill came home and they had a different idea about what an afternnon delight was,he wrote the song instead of having a cigarette afterwards.
It took Bill nearly 6 months to write A.D.
Afternoon Delight has been used in countless movies and tv shows,I call it the "gift that keeps on giving"
One of my favorite things about this song is how most people don't get the lyrics right in the line
"rubbin' sticks and stones together make the sparks ignite and the thought of rubbin' you is gettin' so excitin'", either people actually mis hear the lyric or are afraid to sing it, most will sing it as "the thought of lovin' you", that's not the correct lyric.
There are many who will laugh and say they don't like this song, but I say before you write Bill Danoff off as a great songwriter, remember, it was Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert who provided us with the great
