Playing Flute in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco

Filmed on my second trip to Morocco, in April 2014, please enjoy some flute playing in the High Atlas Mountains near the village, where I stayed with my "adopted family", on the road between Marrakesh and Ouzarzate. The mint tea was heavenly, the freshly squeezed orange juice was local, organic and dirt cheap (50¢ a cup), and the people are welcoming and friendly, and live good, simple lives. Enjoy!

WHAT IS THE WORLD ALLIANCE OF QARA’IM?

The World Alliance of Qara’im (WAQ) is an international organization of independent Karaites established in 2010, committed to steadfastly upholding the principles of Karaism. Unlike other Karaite groups which have, sadly, given themselves over to compromise with the Rabbanites (Rabbis), or engaged in a policy of pandering to the Christians, the WAQ has never – and will never – concede any of the basic tenets of Karaism. These include an unwavering adherence to the straightforward (but not literal!) meaning of the Torah; the rejection of false philosophies such as Pharisaic / Rabbinical Judaism, Christianity / Messianic Judaism, and Western subjective morality; and the belief that, while Hakhamim can be facilitators in helping others understand the Torah, they are not to play the role of dictator or “Pope”. Rather, it is a basic belief of the Karaite movement that each person should “search well in the scriptures and not rely on another’s opinion.” With that in mind, we offer free Karaite / Torah education and activities to all those who are interested.
