I am a self taught Perfumer and Owner of Centauri Perfumes:
Support me by following my brand on Instagram.
  / centauriperfumes
(Please don't leave questions on the brand page, leave them in this comment section so they are all in one place, thank you!)

If you'd like to try my own perfumes I create, you can get samples here in the UK: https://www.centauriperfumes.com

My brand in the USA at LuckyScent.
https://www.luckyscent.com/search?gse...

My brand in Europe / Spain Stockist:
https://www.ecuacionnatural.com/categ...

Today I teach you the basics of perfumery, and give you a modern contemporary style formula to follow at home, suitable for absolute beginners.

You can also pre dilute the materials you do buy at 10% concentration if you wish.
One VERY important point, please do not cross-contaminate your materials. Keep everything separate.

Where to buy materials from? (NOT AFFILIATED)
Try The Perfumers Apprentice in the USA:
https://perfumersapprentice.com/

or Eden Botanicals for nice quality naturals also USA:
https://www.edenbotanicals.com

Naturals in Italy? Hermitage Oils
www.hermitageoils.com

UK you can try Pell Wall but their shipping is very slow:
https://www.pellwall.co.uk

UK Perfumers Alcohol:
https://mistralni.co.uk/products/perf...

USA Perfumers Alcohol: Search "SDA 40-B"

Formula should always be calculated in weight % to do this you take the weight of each material in your formula, add them up for the total. Then divide each individual by the whole and multiply by 100 to get your %.

Suggested materials to try for beginners:
Bergamot GIVCO, Iso E Super, Hedione, Galaxolidde 50, Javanol, Clearwood, Labdanum Absolute 50%, Ethyl Maltol, Vanillin, Norlimbanol, Cashmeran.
Additional suggestions? Why not try "Orivone" for a synthetic Iris like note, used in brands like Imaginary Authors O'Unknown, or "Black Agar Givco" for that sweet resinous woody quality, you might be familiar with through brands like Nasomatto. Like fruity notes? Maybe try "Passionfruit Base" by Firmenich for a watery tropical touch.

Tools: Plastic Pipettes, Glass Beakers, Amber Glass Dropper Bottles, Writing Labels, Notepad, Pen, Graphics Matt to protect your wood tables! Or a glass / metal table top is the most ideal. If you're using a wood table, protect it!

If you would prefer to use the drop method get this book by Mandy Aftel: https://www.aftelier.com/Fragrant-p/w...

Common Questions Answered:

Can I use Vodka to make perfumes instead?
No, use denatured ethanol. This has chemicals added to it to give a bad taste to stop you drinking it. There is also FOOD GRADE ethanol, in the UK you need a license to buy it. So I’ve not recommended It here. For the Americans this comes under “SDA 40-B”

Can I tincture this? Etc
Not everything tinctures well. The main things you can tincture easily at home is vanilla pods. Flowers, woods, spices, coffee beans, leather. This won’t produce good results for you. It won’t be nearly as strong or lasting as an essential oil or absolute. Somethings don't tincture at all.

How do I make CREED etc?
Forget about it, you won’t be able to make anything close to those perfumes. Clone brands use computer analysis to get a break down of the elements used.

My fragrances don’t last long?
You’re using poorly selected materials, you need to incorporate base notes with good lasting power.

Can you teach me?
No, I don’t offer tuition because it takes up too much time.
I am not a teacher, I have a career as a perfumer and brand owner.

How do I understand the allergens?
Download the IFRA statement for the oil you are using, if you are using Perfumers Apprentice materials, email customer services and ask them for an Allergen Declaration list, and an IFRA statement. You can find the safe limits under CLASS 4.

Other Random questions?
Have you tried asking Chat GTP first? it will even tell you how to make accords.. It can also guide you on the allergens. Ask it there first and see if it satisfies your need. If you are really stuck, then drop the question in the comment section.
