Used this race as a shakedown having just upgraded to 270R spec from Roadsport. First time on the GP circuit and in the 270. Car and circuit are absolutely awesome. Mixed grid with predominantly 310R spec cars. There were 10 other cars in the 270R class.
No test day on the previous day but we were offered a 30 min practice session before quali to learn the track. It didn't go well, with the car plagued by electrical issues therefore meaning I did not get a chance to learn the outer GP circuit. The problems persisted into quali and so I started quite a way down the field but still 3rd in class with Chris Skillicorn and Jon Bryant about 6 or 7 cars ahead on the grid.
The electrical gremlins were fixed for the race (thanks PT) and I made a good start. I was on the back of Chris by half way and had a good dice with him and then tried to pull away. I was then caught in a bit of a tangle as a result of a concertina with some 310 cars and was punished with a burst radiator! My first ever retirement from a Caterham race. It was a real shame as I was on for the class win and it also set me back badly in race 2.
