The FW de Klerk Foundation, in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, hosted its Constitutional Rights Conference on “Achieving an Inclusive Economy”.
Moeletsi Mbeki (Deputy Chairperson of the South African Institute of International Affairs) defined the roots of South Africa’s economic stagnation and how to overcome them.
Deputy Finance Minister Ashor Sarupen discussed challenges to address income inequality, including infrastructure, national budget allocations, public debt and the G20’s inclusive economy priorities.
Dr Celeste Campher (University of the Free State Economics and Finance Lecturer) outlined the opportunities to unlock inclusive economic growth in South Africa.
Ismail Joosub (Manager of Constitutional Advancement at the FW de Klerk Foundation) provided the audience with an overview of the current legal landscape governing an inclusive economy.
Prof William Gumede (University of the Witwatersrand Associate Professor) evaluated the limitations of existing inclusive economy policies and propose alternatives.
