Solitude’s Highest Lift, the Summit Express was built by Doppelmayr a decade ago in 2015, replacing an old center-pole CTEC double in a longer alignment. It is 800 feet longer than the old one and gains around ~30 feet more vertical. The Summit Express starts further down than old summit did, which allowed for access from Apex Express instead of just from Sunrise. Summit is the only lift serving Honeycomb Canyon and the Brighton Resort connection via the SolBright trail, so in terms of crowds, Summit gets the most slams. It also services its own terrain area as well ranging from enjoyable cruisers to the Evergreen, Fantasy Ridge and Headwall hikes. Summit Express’s profile is a lot more dramatic than the old one, with a crazy roller-coaster like lift line going steeply downhill from Towers 10 to 12, 3 flat sections, 2 steep climbs, and all towers utilizing tall, multiple-spliced sections for those matters as well. Towers 8 and 19 are the beefiest support towers with Tower 12 the biggest hold-down alongside 3 others! Summit also comes with wind-resistant backrests similar to the ones in nearby Snowbird and Deer Valley. This speedy dramatic lift has a long life ahead as it keeps bringing skiers up to Solitude’s highest points.
