Crum Drum Ambient FM

Here’s a pattern I stumbled in to while playing with the Crum Drum today.
I had a whole mess of sounds and sloppy beats going on before this, but they were fun too.

It’s routed through my Roland P-6 for the cassette master FX which gets added more and more by the end of this recording. I like the sound a lot! I want to experiment more with FM and Lo-Fi effects soon.

I haven’t shared any recordings on here in a while.
Usually when these phases come up it’s because I’m just busy with work or family life.

This time honestly, it’s because I’ve been in kind of a funk.
I’ve been thinking too much about current news and world events, and specifically the use of AI in music.

I’m not fully sure of my thoughts on it at present, I’m still cooking on it. I’m grateful and fortunate that I have a job where I can support making music in my free time, but I know others that depend on their musicianship for their livelihoods.
I’ve even been writing a script like I would do some talking head nonsense on the subject.

Instead of feeling hung up on whether or not music I might make will get absorbed into some synthetic consciousness and repurposed by some lazy prompts, I’d rather just keep on making my own sounds.

Plus, it is kind of silly to moan about it on a video of me using a generative synthesizer!

I don’t wan’t to become somebody narrating over noodling with a synthesizer or doing voice-over tutorials, or complaining about gear news.
Instead I might show my self doing the music more soon.
I’ll start leaning into just showing myself recording and playing.

I’ll just show more humanity.
