Allen Newell, winner of the Association for Computing Machinery's A.M. Turing Award, describes his sudden realization (in 1957) of the potential of the computer as a model of human though, which resulted in the creation of the Logic Theorist and General Problem Solver programs. This clip taken from a talk “Desires and Diversions” delivered by Newell at Carnegie Mellon University in 1991.
