Northern Ireland's troubled history of sectarianism, of violence, of cultures and traditions which refuse to reconcile, still can't be entirely consigned to the past. The murder of the journalist Lyra McKee earlier this year was a vivid reminder of how organisations like the New IRA can still operate in communities struggling with a profound sense of political alienation.
