I cover safe jacking with a floor jack and jack stands, locating the drain plug and spin-on filter, and letting the oil drain to a slow drip for a more complete and cleaner change. You’ll see how to break loose a stubborn filter, wipe the mating surface, lightly oil the gasket, hand-tighten properly for easy removal next time, and prefill a vertical filter to speed oil pressure on startup. We also discuss oil choice—Kia caps often say 5W-20, while many owners prefer 5W-30 for added protection—plus why full synthetic (and high-mileage blends past ~100k) is a smart pick. Many Kias use 4.5 quarts and about 25–32 lb-ft torque on the drain plug, but check your owner’s manual for exact capacity and torque.
